Newbery Challenge Pizza Party

The annual Newbery Challenge Pizza Party, our final event of the summer reading program, was this afternoon, and everyone seemed to have a great time. The challenge is to read six Newbery books (winners or honor books) from different time periods over the course of the summer. We had 12 children and 3 adults finish the challenge.

I am always amazed at the diversity of books that the kids choose to read, and yet there are always a few standards. I asked the same questions: "What was your favorite book?" and "What book was your least favorite?" I was surprised this year as to how many kids struggled to find a least favorite, and usually it was the ones they thought would be the easiest read. We were also surprised as to how many of these books were the first in a series, and how many have been made into movies.

Thank you Reliant Community Credit Union for your continued support,
both in purchasing the books and supplying the pizza and prizes!
