One More Week of After School Wednesdays

June 3rd will be the last of our Wednesday after school program for the Intermediate School children.  What a great year it has been!!!!
We will prepare for our Summer Reading Program, Every Hero Has a Story, by watching the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and then playing Super Hero Jeopardy.

Visit from Rand Darrow

Yesterday, my after school kids had a special treat, a puppet show by author and puppet maker, Rand Darrow!  Mr. Darrow explained the origin of his Baba Yaga stories from Russia, gave the kids some information about the ancient town in Russia that his stories are set in, and showed off some of his larger pieces, like Baba Yaga and her house on chicken leg stilts.  After presenting one of his original stories, Mr. Darrow then taught the kids how to make their own puppets out of milk cartons.  It was a nice change.

Parchutes and Puppets

Okay, so we got a little loud in the library yesterday, but oh, who could resist kids and a parachute!  We eventually took it outside, but......................
Next week we will have a special program.  Rand Darrow will visit us with a special puppet show and then show the kids how he made his puppets.  We'll also watch a few Pixar shorts while having our snack.  Should be fun!

Pal-Mac Robotics Team

We were fortunate to be visited by the Pal-Mac High School Robotics Team this past Saturday.  Even with their busy end-of-school-year schedules, the teens came with a fabulous display and their catapulting robot from last year's competition.  They were kind enough to let everyone steer the robot, young and old alike.

They will be back this summer!  So check the calendar!

Three Weeks Left

With only 3 weeks left of our Wednesday After School Movie and Activity (yes, we are getting that close to school being over and summer starting!), we will be watching Nanny McPhee on May 20th.
For those of you who don't know her, she's kind of Mary Poppins without the singing.  And there's a great food fight!

Overcoming our Tech Challenges

Yesterday was a bit of a challenge due to "technical difficulties".  First, our DVD player froze up, and we couldn't even get the DVD in the player.  But, okay, we're resilient here at the Macedon Public Library, so let's play it through the laptop.  We get that all hooked up, and the sound is terrible, only base playing so we can't hear any dialog.  Okay, so let's go outside and play on this beautiful afternoon until our IT genius, Nick, can get here and fix the problem(s).
After 20 minutes of playing outside everyone wants to go back inside, but this time we had luck.  Nick fixed our sub-woofer and reset the DVD player.  All was well and we had a great afternoon, finally, of watching Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.

Here's hoping that next week's showing of Mulan will be less eventful.
