Christmas Party!
What's more fun than playing "Pin the Nose on Rudolph" or "Christmas Carol Scramble"? Yesterday our after school kids discovered that it's dressing up one of the volunteers as a Christmas tree!!!!!!!
Thank you, Julia, for your patience and willingness to play along.

Holiday After School Movie and Activity
The awful weather yesterday did not deter many of my after school kids from coming for a movie and activity. We braved the snow and wind to watch Arthur Christmas, a wonderful but not well-known movie about the magic of Santa.
Next week is our holiday celebration with the classic movie The Santa Clause.

Grinch Visits!
We were fortunate enough to have a special visitor on Sunday -- the Grinch!!!
Just as I finished reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in popped the Grinch himself! With his heart grown 3 sizes he handed out candy canes and talked to the kids, and we all sang Welcome Christmas together. The Grinch even gave Tiger Cub Pack 50 a tour of the library!
Next year we'll invite him for some roast beast.

Awesome After School Fun
Yesterday was "awesome"! We watched The Lego Movie and then played with Lego's! So much fun to watch the kids intently make whatever they want.
Next week we'll start our holiday season with Arthur Christmas. Join Santa's second son on his incredible journey to insure that no child is missed on Christmas day.

After School
I am happy to say that we were able to show Maleficent the day after it came out on DVD, and I loved it.....maybe more than the children! One of the perks of being a Youth Specialist at a library!
Next Wednesday, November 12th, we will be showing a family favorite about the 185 pounds of romping, drooling, disaster-prone St. Bernard..............Beethoven!

After school continues
As I noted below, the kids and I are having a great time on Wednesday afternoons. However, I forgot to thank the Pal-Mac High School Seniors who have been helping out, volunteering their time for P.I.G. points. I don't know what I'll do when the semester is over.
I am excited to say that next Wednesday, November 5th, we will be showing the newly released Maleficent!
November
The library has a lot of activities planned for November so be sure to check our calendar!
November is National Novel Writing Month, and we have several support group sessions scheduled to help you on your way.
On November 9th local author Julie Cummins will discuss controversial illustrations in children's literature.
Join us November 19th when the Friends of the Macedon Library will host Christopher Bensch of the National Toy Hall of Fame as he discusses holiday traditions.
On November 23rd will be the showing of the Pal-Mac Middle School choice movie from a book: A Fault in Our Stars.
Everybody loves pie! November 25th will be our pie baking contest! The winner will receive a $50 Wegman's gift card.
And we end the month, November 30th, with Kim Tenreiro's one man show of A Christmas Carol.

Halloween!
I love Halloween! On Tuesday I had Elsa and Anna (and their little dog, too) come for stories and snacks.
For our after school Halloween movie I introduced a new generation to Jim Varney in Ernest Scared Stupid. So much fun! The we played pin-the-nose-on-the-pumpkin, make your friend into a mummy, pumpkin bowling and made some beautiful pictures.

Halloween
We are continuing to get a nice crowd of kids for the Wednesday after school movie and activity. So I guess they are enjoying it as much as I am!
Next week is our Halloween party (the kids can bring costumes if they want), and we have a few party games planned.
The movie will be my all-time Halloween favorite: Ernest Scared Stupid!

After School Program Update
I am so proud of the kids who come over from the Intermediate School on Wednesday afternoons! This week we were unable to use the community room because of the book sale set up, and we had to relocate to the teen section in the back of the library. I explained the situation and ask that they be on their best behavior and use only quiet voices. And, although they had been in classes all day, they exceeded my expectations on decibel level and politeness. Thank you kids! All 40 of you!
We tried something new this week - Jeopardy! Stacey told me the kids would love it, and they did. With a little modification (always learning) we are going to have to try this again in the near future. So much fun!
In keeping with our Halloween theme, our movie on October 22 is Casper.

Columbus Day Visitors
Wildlife Defenders visited us today! It was a wonderful program where we learned how many animals defend themselves in the wild. They were also lots of fun just to watch. Many thanks to the Macedon Town Court for allowing us to use their courtroom for this special show.
Don't forget, after school Wednesday, we are showing Spooky Buddies. And Friday we will be meeting live tarantulas and learning spider facts in Amazing Spiders!, also at the Town Hall at 3:30 p.m.

More kid stuff
We are continuing to have a great turn out and great fun with our Wednesday after school movie and activity! Our regular story times are also going well, but there is always room for more.
There will be no after school program next Wednesday, as there is only a half day of school. But the following week promises to be quite busy here. Mark your calendars:
We are having a special Columbus Day program to give you and the kids something to do on their day off. Wildlife Defenders has a new fall show featuring a unique line-up of animals: "How do animals protect themselves?" It will include a new line-up of animals, including an African crested porcupine, a dwarf mongoose, a toucan and others. That will be Monday, October 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Town Hall.
On Friday, October 17, we will host Amazing Spiders!, at 3:30 p.m. also at the Town Hall. You will see live tarantulas and find out interesting facts about creepy, crawly spiders and be amazed as someone from the audience is transformed into an arachnid!
And we will start a trio of Halloween movies after school on Wednesday, October 15, with Spooky Buddies. In a race against a no good hound, the Buddies and their new friends, Pip, Zelda, Rodney, and Skip, must stop Warwick the Warlock and save the world from his dastardly deeds. Rated G, 88 minutes.
All this, and our semi-annual book sale, too! October 16, 17 & 18, regular library hours.

After School Wednesdays
WOW! What a great turn out when I went to pick the kids up from the Intermediate School! I had so much fun with them, once we figured out how it was all going to work.
Just a reminder, we'll pick them up from school and walk them to the library, give them some popcorn (which we'll start making earlier since there was such a delay), read a book, watch a movie and do a short activity. The children must be picked up by 6:00 p.m., although there is no formal dismissal time. Also, we only give them 1/2 lunch bag of popcorn. Please feel free to pack an additional snack and drink box for them.
Next week, October 1, we'll be watching The Muppets Most Wanted!

Wednesday After School Movie & Activity
I am so excited to start our after school Wednesday program for the kids in the Intermediate School! We'll pick them up from school and show a movie, feed them popcorn, and have another fun activity! 3rd through 5th graders from other districts and home schoolers are invited, too. The possibilities are endless!
Our first week, October 24th, we will be showing the very popular, original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Rated G 98 min.

Exciting Fall News!
Wow! That was a busy summer! Between children, teens and adults we had 95 activities with an attendance of 1,223 people! I never had a chance to sit down and write on this blog, but I have made promises to myself that this fall I will be better.
As you know, we have a new Director at the Macedon Public Library. Stacey Wicksall has come in and made some exciting changes. Please check out our calendar for all of the upcoming events this fall!
We start next week with a new story time schedule and format:
Mondays: Little Sprouts (ages 2-3) meet with Ms. Dibble at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesdays: Seedlings (up to 18 months) meet with Miss Nina at 10:30 a.m.
Big Sprouts (ages 4-5) meet with Mrs. K at 2:00 p.m.
On Wednesdays we are having an after school program for kids in grades 3-5 starting at 3:00 p.m. Mrs. K will read a book then we'll watch a movie, have a snack and do an activity or craft. Kids must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. There is information available at the Pal-Mac Intermediate School about this program, however children in these grades from other school districts and home schoolers are also invited.
Choo-Choo Saturdays is for children in Kindergarten to 2nd grade starting at 1:00 p.m. A story will be read while the kids play with our extensive train collection in the Community Room. This is a great opportunity for the kids to socialize through themed, unstructured play in a relaxed, safe environment!
At 10:30 Saturday mornings we are offering "Whimsical Arts and Crafts" for children ages 5-12, where children can flex their creative muscles making some fun projects. Registration is required.
And we haven't forgotten the teens! Monday afternoons they can meet from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., where they will do a variety of fun activities, including watching movies, making movies being crafty. Also, one Thursday night a month we will host "Bad Movie Night". Teens and adults will enjoy a delightfully bad movie while snacking on Mark's pizza. Bring your cell phones and tablets because you can text your comments to the screen!

KIDSOUTANDABOUT
Last week KidsOutAndAbout launched their annual survey of the top 20 things to do in Rochester. In 2011, “My Local Library” ranked #6 in the list. But in 2012 and 2013,
the libraries were #8 . Now, being in the Top 10 is awesome. But all of
the commercial establishments have taken to social media already to get
out the vote. So let's give a libraries a big "shout out"! Take this survey vote for your local library as
the #1 place to take kids:
