Spiders
The spiders came!
Liz Thompson, the Batphile who visited us this summer to teach us about bats, came again on Wednesday to teach us about spiders. Obviously, Liz has some "creepy" issues. Luckily for us.
Naturally, the kids had a great time. One got to dress as a spider (for identification purposes), and several got to pretend to be the various types of insect catching spiders. Did you know some spiders catch their prey with spit?!
We also learned that spider venom is being studied for medicinal purposes, and that the U.S. government is trying to re-create spider silk for its strength.
Thank you Liz! What creepy creature will you study next?

Bullis Open House
On Sunday, October 4, the Bullis Committee hosted an Open House honoring benefactor Miss Jeannette Aurelia Bullis, her family and their contributions. Special guest, "Nettie" was there to welcome the guests.
Included were a display of special Bullis books, a demonstration of Bullis book repair and refreshments (special bologna sandwiches, one of Nettie's favorite dinners). Also, history buff and producer, Joseph Hill, graciously shared his research on General John Lapham Bullis and the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts that he lead.
We thank all who came and hoped that you enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.

Grant for Children's DVDs
Many thanks to the Friends of the Macedon Public Library for their grant "Promoting Juvenile Learning and Literacy Through DVDs". With these funds we were able to purchase DVDs based on books as an inducement to read.
They are displayed in the children's section with the books they are based on. We have encouraged our patrons to take both home.
Come in and "check them out".
