Summer Reads for Adults

I get so wrapped up in the children's Summer Reading Program that I sometimes forget that adults also like to take this vacation time to relax with a good book. Here are some new ones!

The Spy by Clive Cussler
The Rule of Nine by Steve Martini
The Lion by Nelson DeMille
Whiplash by Catherine Coulter
9th Judgment by James Patterson
Lost Souls from the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz
Orchard Valley Grooms by Debbie Macomber
Take Four by Karen Kingsbury
Family Ties by Danielle Steel
Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich
and, of course, the popular triology by Steig Larsson
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Happy Summer Reading

Make a Splash

Registration for our Summer Reading Program is actually going quite well. However, there is still plenty of room in all our programs, especially our Thursday workshops.
Be sure to come in and see what we have going on!

Making a Splash

So, it's been a while since I posted anything on this blog. I was shocked to realize just how long it had been! Part of that was that I was able to get away for vacation, but I will attribute the rest of it to the fact that I have been working so hard on making this summer's reading program the best yet! Our theme is "Make a Splash at Your Library", and although we are not allowing the actual wet stuff into the library, we do have some water related stories, crafts and programs scheduled.

So, here's the scoop for the summer:

Mondays are stories and crafts for 3, 4, 5 year olds.
Tuesdays are stories and crafts for those entering kindergarten and 1st grade.
Wednesday are stories and crafts for those entering 2nd to 5th grade.
We also have 4 special programs scheduled for Wednesdays: Nate & Kate's KidS Show, Pete the Pirate's Puppet Show, Amphibians and Reptiles, and Balloon Crazy & Face Painting.
Thursdays are workshops, including geocaching, scrapbooking, caricature drawing, learning rhythm, playing with water, and building a bridge.

Those are just the in-library activities. Naturally we will continue giving out dinky prizes as incentives for reading at home. And the Reliant Community Credit Union will again sponsor a pizza party for those who complete the Newbery Challenge (reading 6 Newbery books throughout the summer).

The program runs from July 5th through August 13th. Registration will begin here at the Macedon Public Library on June 21st and continue for 2 weeks. We are also trying something new this year: on line registration for your reading log and prizes!! (You cannot register for any in-library programs on line, though. Sorry.)

So, we hope to see lots and lots of kids this summer.

Come on in - the water's fine.
